The Evolution of ISLS: Shaping the Future of HBP Surgery
Since its foundation in 2016, the International Society of Liver Surgeons (ISLS) has successfully hosted the annual International Advanced Liver and Pancreas Symposium. While previous symposia focused primarily on invited lectures and our signature Live Demonstration sessions, ISLS has evolved to meet the growing needs of the global surgical community. To elevate our academic impact, ISLS transitioned to a Biennial Congress model in 2021, introducing a fully diversified scientific program. Our flagship meeting, now officially titled “The ISLS Congress of Advanced HBP Surgery,” features competitive free paper sessions, video symposia, and interactive debates. A true highlight of the congress remains the Live Demonstrations, offering a unique opportunity to observe advanced surgical techniques in real-time, facilitated by global experts.

Fostering Global Collaboration
In the intervening years between biennial congresses, ISLS organizes Single Topic Symposium (STS). These focused meetings provide an intensive deep-dive into specific advancements and emerging challenges in our field, complementing the large-scale scope of the main Congress.

Following the remarkable success of the 6th Congress of International Advanced HBP Surgery (ISLS 2025) in Canada - our historic first meeting in North America - we are pleased to continue this evolved academic journey.
